At Browns Bay Pre-School we are proud to offer high quality
care and education for children aged 0 to 5 years, and also
an environment where children can learn and grow through their
own interests and the environment around them.
We have adopted
many of the philosophies of Reggio Emelia, a city in Italy,
where their pholosophies about childcare are inovative and
challenging.
One of our focuses is on “listening” to children,
parents and one another.

Children are seen as individuals
who function within a community. It is therefor important
that we get to know each child and his/her family intimately
and that we work as a team with the families to provide a programme
that allows children to explore, problem solve and discover
theories about life. This is achieved by providing a
rich environment
with many learning experiences (activities) that encourage
these skills to develop, and is also aesthetically
pleasing.
We use many natural resources and pay special
attention to the presentation of the activities, artwork
and the centre
as a whole. Children’s participation and development
are recorded
through
|

various forms of documentation such as projects, photos, portfolios
etc. The portfolios form the basis of all planning and learning
outcomes that are set for each child. The planning is based
on Te Whaariki,
the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum.
Our Infants and Toddlers experience an environment where they
are nurtured and cared for in a small group. Children are familiar
with the daily routines, which run smoothly and promote the
well
being of all the children. High expectations are set for the
children and the teachers. Children are recognised as “competent,
confident”
learners.
We work together to establish a friendly, loving
and nurturing environment where everyone is valued.
We welcome visitors and if you would like any more information
